Andrew Arango, DDS, MD, FACS

Dr. Andrew Arango is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who is uniquely qualified as both a licensed physician and a licensed dentist. This dual degree training allows him to provide comprehensive surgical care of the face, jaws, and oral cavity with an exceptional depth of medical and surgical expertise. He practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with a strong emphasis on orthognathic and reconstructive jaw surgery, obstructive sleep apnea surgery, and advanced temporomandibular joint (TMJ) reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Arango is nationally recognized for his work in TMJ surgery and joint replacement. He is among the top 10 percent of surgeons in the United States performing total temporomandibular joint replacements and is widely regarded as one of the leading private-practice TMJ surgeons in the country. In addition, Dr. Arango is the first surgeon in the nation to perform minimally invasive TMJ and jaw surgery techniques in a private practice setting, bringing cutting-edge surgical innovation to patients outside of large academic centers. His approach prioritizes precision, reduced surgical trauma, faster recovery, and improved long-term outcomes.
Beyond TMJ and jaw surgery, Dr. Arango has special interests in dental implants, wisdom tooth surgery, bone grafting, and facial trauma reconstruction. His broad training and experience allow him to manage both routine and highly complex cases, including patients with significant functional, structural, and airway concerns.
Dr. Arango was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and attended Christ the King Catholic School followed by Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University before returning to Texas to pursue his professional education.
He received his dental degree from The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society. During dental school, Dr. Arango developed a strong passion for surgery, leading him to continue his training in medicine at UT Health San Antonio’s Long School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree and subsequently completed an internship in General Surgery and Anesthesiology at University Hospital, gaining extensive experience in complex surgical and perioperative patient care. During this time, he was selected by his peers for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in recognition of his compassionate, collaborative, and patient-centered approach to care.
Dr. Arango completed his advanced residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. There, he trained under internationally recognized leaders in orthognathic surgery, facial reconstruction, and TMJ surgery, further refining his expertise in some of the most technically demanding procedures in the specialty.
Dr. Arango strongly believes in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care and emphasizes close collaboration between medical and dental providers to achieve the best possible outcomes. He is deeply committed to patient education, clear communication, and individualized treatment planning.
In 2022, Dr. Arango was inducted into the American College of Surgeons in recognition of his successful management of numerous high-risk and complex surgical cases. He was one of the youngest surgeons in his specialty to receive this honor—an achievement attained by fewer than one percent of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons nationwide.
