Missing teeth result in the loss of jawbone over time due to missing teeth atrophies or the jawbone becomes reabsorbed. Bone grafting is necessary with the placement of dental implants to rectify this problem. Patients with jawbone loss need bone grafting before they can become candidates for dental implants.

Bone Grafting And Dental Implants

Today, we have solutions to help our patients with jawbone loss through bone grafting. We have the ability to grow the jawbone where we need. Bone grafting allows us to give you proper dental implants and also allows us to restore proper function and your appearance long term once the dental implants are placed.

Most people don’t realize they will lose jawbone with missing teeth. As with most oral and tooth related problems, once there is a problem, those issues only get worse until they are treated. Jawbone reabsorbs and continues to weaken over time. This can and does lead to further problems with the teeth and jaw, including functional issues and impacts to your appearance. Bone grafting is the only solution to allow us to provide you implant dentistry solutions.

Dr. Arango is highly experienced in all areas of oral surgery and maxillofacial surgery. He has helped thousands of patients and bone grafting for the placement of dental implants is another key area where they have extensive hands-on experience.

What is Bone Grafting?

Major and Minor Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is the term used for the treatment and procedure of repairing dental implant sites in the mouth. Major and minor bone grafting is used to repair bone structure due to previous extractions, lost teeth, gum disease or injuries. Major bone grafting is usually performed to repair major defects from injury or from birth. Dental implants normally only require minor bone grafting. We, most often, use bine from a tissue bank. This makes grafting easier as another surgery site is not needed to harvest the bone. This graft replaces reabsorbed jawbone to prepare for dental implant.

Sinus Bone Grafting
Sinus bone grafting is performed to replace bone in the upper jaw. We may even use special membranes placed under the gum. These membranes may dissolve over time and encourage the healthy growth of new bone. Because the roots of the upper teeth often extend into the maxillary sinuses, when the upper teeth are missing there is only a thin layer of bone separating the upper mouth and the maxillary sinuses. Again, this bone deteriorates, is absorbed or atrophies over time. Sinus bone grafting is how Dr. Arango repairs the upper jawbone to prepare for the dental implant. The procedure is also often called a sinus graft or sinus graft lift. Donor bone is inserted into the damaged area by entering where missing teeth once were.
